Sylvia Wight-Holder
wool, sewing
I have loved to sew ever since my mother taught me (and trusted me) to use her Singer featherweight portable sewing machine (which I still have) to keep me busy when I was five, before starting school.
This passion has taken me through many projects over the years.
My most recent work involves my love of all things wool and my strange addiction to the world of recycling. I have found that many beautiful wool sweaters are discarded (too scratchy perhaps or maybe too hot). I rescue them, felt them in my washer and dryer and then have fun making them into colourful and warm mittens and slippers.
Wool sweaters, felted and fashioned into cozy mittens, slippers and little bags. Oven mitts, quill garlands and puppet nativity scenes.
