Kindred Spirits Artisans of Paris is an incorporated
organization of individuals who share a common creative interest
and who work cooperatively to raise the profile of the arts
in the local community. When the group was founded in 1990,
local newspapers heralded the coming together of people from
a variety of artistic disciplines as a cultural renaissance.
This renaissance has continued over the past fourteen years,
adding to existing artistic energies and talents.
Kindred Spirits has become a presence in most artistic endeavours
in Paris. Although perhaps best known for “Christmas
in Paris”, the popular Christmas show and sale of unique
hand-made gift items which is held on the second weekend in
November, Kindred Spirits is active in the community in many
other ways, as well. In addition to monthly meetings that
explore different aspects of the arts, the group regularly
offers a wide range of workshops that are open to the general
public. Most years, Kindred Spirits sponsors a special “Springtime
in Paris” children’s workshop that allows area
children to experiment with a variety of media. To foster
the arts further within the community, annual bursaries are
awarded to secondary school students intending to continue
their studies in the arts and prizes are given in several
categories at the Paris Agricultural Fall Fair.
Over the years, many members of the group have had their art
featured in exhibits at Glenhyrst Art Gallery and at area
Museums and Libraries; as well as in juried exhibitions and
studio tours. In addition, Kindred Spirits members are a major
presence at the annual Cobblestone Festival organized by the
Friends of Paris Culture. Many members also operate successful
studios and businesses in and around Paris.
